Below are some answers to frequently asked questions about Peak Pitch. If you cannot find the answer
to your question, please email meagan@borealisventures.com. What types of companies will be there? Any entrepreneur with either an idea for a product or service or that has an existing business and is in the process of raising, or would like to consider raising, capital is welcome. Some attendees will use this event to test their pitches and ideas while others will be working hard to make direct contact with potential investors - the beauty of Peak Pitch is that it enables either scenario. What types of investors will be there? Investors will range from institutional venture capital firms to individual investors - the type of people that are always in the hunt for the next great deal or looking for the chance to network with smart entrepreneurs. Last year's attendees included a healthy mix of both types of investors. Besides entrepreneurs and investors, who else will be there? Peak Pitch is designed to connect entrepreneurs with not only investors, but other individuals who may have insight and guidance to share. While entrepreneurs will be able to pitch their business ideas to a variety of venture capitalists, angel investors and commercial lenders, there will also be entrepreneurs there who have raised money in their business careers and may have some helpful advice for those raising capital now. Is there opportunity for non-skiers? Peak Pitch is not a skiing competition. Ability to ski will not reflect on your abilities as an entrepreneur or investor. The spirit of the event is based upon enjoying the great outdoors to create an informal and constructive environment to share business ideas and interests. Therefore, we prefer for everyone to get out on the slopes, regardless of ability, and have a fun, relaxed day. However, if there is a situation where the company is not comfortable on skis we will make every effort to accommodate connecting entrepreneurs and investors to make their Peak Pitch experience a meaningful one. Since these arrangements may differ by location, please contact Meagan Pryor at meagan@borealisventures.com. Will we get follow-up information for attendees? All attendees at the time of registration will choose to either limit their information to those they will be skiing with or make it more broadly available to all attendees. So, entrepreneurs may in fact choose to have their information made available to all investor attendees and likewise investors may choose to have their information shared with their skiing partners only or to all attendees. Will there be a program, and if so what will it be? While the schedules have not been finalized, the Peak Pitch events will generally have the following schedule: 8 - 9:00....check in 9:00.........opening remarks 9:30.........sample pitch 10:00.......on the hill 12:00........buffet lunch 12:30.......keynote speech 1:00.........high points of the pitches & themes for improvement 1:15.........panel and/or speaker, prizes awarded 2:00.........schedule concludes How will you match up pitchers and pitchees? The matching at Peak Pitch will, for the most part, happen instantaneously in the ski lift line. However, as entrepreneurs and investors register and we get a better sense of who is attending, we will try and match entrepreneurs with investors or advisors who fit their niche or focus and we expect that some of those connections will be made in the lodge over lunch or as attendees network throughout the day. How many times can we pitch? It depends on how quickly you can get down the hill. At most of the Peak Pitch events you will have about 2-3 hours for on-slope pitching. Typically, pitchees are able to pitch about 4-7 times in one hour. What exactly is an elevator pitch? An elevator pitch is an extremely concise presentation of an entrepreneur's idea, business model, company solution, marketing strategy, and competition delivered to potential investors. The pitch should not last more than a few minutes, or the duration of an elevator ride. We suggest the following sites for tips on improving your pitch: www.yourelevatorpitch.com "Practicing the Art of Pitchcraft" from the VC blog, who has time fo this? Can we ski all day? Yes. While the formal schedule for Peak Pitch will end in the early afternoon, we hope attendees will be able to stay for the afternoon, enjoy a day on the slopes and hopefully more time to talk and network. What does it cost? Peak Pitch events are free for all attendees. However, you must be pre-registered for Peak Pitch and space is limited. |
